We make typefaces that designers want to use. Founded in 2019 by Bastien Sozeau in Paris, NBR focuses on fonts that feel smart, reliable, and handle what you throw at them. Not just pretty—actually useful.

Where this started

Our work with type began before NBR was official. In 2013, we started releasing free fonts through Uplaod, our design studio. No business plan, just the work of figuring out what makes a typeface feel right to use. What makes it versatile. Why personality matters.

Those early years shaped how we think about everything. We still approach it the same way, just with more experience and clearer opinions about what works.

What we’re doing now

We release retail typefaces and develop open-source families. We do both because we think good type should be accessible to everyone.

Typebox is our online playground if you want to test something first. Mix fonts, see how they work in your actual projects. No commitment.

We also take custom work. Full typefaces, logotypes, typographic systems, refinements to existing fonts. If you have a specific challenge, we can probably help. NBR Type in Use shows real projects from designers and studios using our fonts.

Students and schools get 60% off.

Open-source fonts are completely free under the SIL Open Font License.
